Description:

Summary of Position:

Leverages expertise in our products including applications and connector assembly processes to enable the success of our customers through efforts including but not limited to new product and process development and introduction, support of current customers on existing products, support of new customers, and identification of product adaptations of existing products for new applications. Front-line support of US Conec’s customers, creation of technical documentation, process development and industrialization, product and process test and experimentation and analysis of associated data, creation of technical documentation, and collaborating across departments to support the success of key US Conec business programs.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (other duties as assigned):

  • Provides technical support to our customers on connector assembly processes, product applications, and product performance in partnership with the Global Sales team
  • Collaborates with customers and others across US Conec on the development of new products and adoption of new and/or existing products in US Conec’s portfolio. Activities include:

o Experimentation and data analysis

o Training

o Technical documentation

o On-site support

  • Supports US Conec Research and Development and Product Managers with the qualification of new products through advising on product configurations, the most effective test regime, and the documentation of results
  • Leads and/or supports Applications Engineering department projects to improve our systems and/or elevate our technical strength
  • Maintains project timelines and progress based on company priorities and available internal department resources

o Provides regular project updates though meetings and other written and verbal communications

  • Represents US Conec across the industry including standards and/or consortia, webinars, conferences, etc.
  • Assist AE Training personnel with customer training via video/in-person

Equipment and Software Used:

  • Contact gauging equipment, such as calipers, and micrometers
  • Optical test equipment, optical fiber termination and measurement equipment, microscopes, environmental chambers, and vision measurement systems with associated software
  • MS Office Suite
  • Data analysis software such as MatLab, JMP, and/or Minitab
  • Corporate collaboration and work flow software
  • Enterprise Resource Planning software
Requirements:

Education and Skill Requirements:

  • B.S. degree in engineering with a preference for mechanical, electrical, or optical engineering
  • Ability to work as part of a highly-collaborative organization
  • Ability to be flexible while multi-tasking, effectively manage time, and re-prioritize multiple projects
  • Consistent ability to accomplish assigned objectives
  • Knowledge of engineering statistics
  • Ability to establish hypotheses, write experimental plans, analyze test results, draw responsible technical conclusions, and recommend next steps
  • Knowledge of basic engineering principals in optical science, mechanical design, and/or fiber optics
  • Excellent interpersonal skills including verbal (formal and informal) and written communications with an emphasis on organizing and succinctly conveying ideas
  • Previous experience in fiber optic or telecommunication systems, specifically multi-fiber connectors, preferred
  • Willingness to travel, domestic and international, up to 20%
